Having beautiful skin is possible, no matter its current condition.
Establishing a skincare routine tailored to your skin type will make your face a little more radiant each day. Your skin type and its specific conditions will guide the choice of your cosmetic products.
Beautiful skin rhymes with healthy skin. To further enhance your daily well-being, choose a skincare routine composed of healthy and natural cosmetics.
Follow these 4 steps to create or improve your skincare routine:
1- THE CLEANSER: CHOOSE THE ONE SUITABLE FOR YOUR SKIN:
Cleansing is an essential step in a skincare routine. It helps remove all impurities deposited on your face during the day, excess sebum, and makeup.
First, it is necessary to correctly identify your skin type (normal, dry, combination, or oily) to determine the products that will be suitable for it.
Some products, natural or not, are designed for various special skin conditions and allergies. So, make sure you are buying a cleanser that will not cause bad reactions, in addition to being optimized.
Do you wear heavy makeup and often struggle to remove the layer of makeup covering your face? Why not try double cleansing?
This method consists, as its name suggests, of cleansing your skin in two steps.
First: the application of an oily makeup remover such as a balm or a natural cleansing oil, which is ideal for dissolving makeup. Massage your dry face in circular motions, focusing on areas that are harder to remove makeup from, such as the eyes and lips. Then, wet your hands to remove excess oil and massage your face again. Upon contact with water, the oil transforms into milk. Rinse your face thoroughly. You can use a reusable cotton pad to remove any remaining product if necessary.
The second step involves applying a cleanser which can come in different forms: gel, foam, or even solid. Lather the product with your hands and apply it all over your face, down to your neck. Massage your face again. This step should not last less than one minute. Finally, rinse your face with water.
You can now proceed with the rest of your skincare routine. We have dedicated an article to the double cleansing method, feel free to read it for more details!
2- THE EXFOLIANT: BE CAREFUL TO CHOOSE AND USE IT CORRECTLY
Exfoliation can bring almost magical results for the skin, but only when done correctly! It consists of removing all dead cells from the surface of your skin that can clog your pores. They therefore prevent products from penetrating correctly and acting effectively.
Here is a brief overview of the benefits of good exfoliation for the skin:
- more even complexion,
- smoother texture,
- reduction of spots,
- pimples and blackheads.
To fully use an exfoliant without suffering negative consequences, it is essential to choose one adapted to your skin and to apply it at the right frequency. Always remember to read labels carefully and start with a small size so you don't waste your money if the product doesn't suit you. Ideally, ask your dermatologist for advice (but if you don't want to take the time, we forgive you).
There is a wide variety of compositions among exfoliants, they are classified into two categories: mechanical scrubs (composed of more or less coarse grains) and chemical exfoliants (composed of active ingredients that act directly on the skin).
To ensure you don't damage your skin, favor finer grains for exfoliating your face. Also, be gentle during the massage.

As for liquid exfoliants, they eliminate the need to rub and thus irritate your skin.
Still, be vigilant and test your tolerance to this exfoliant in the crook of your elbow before applying it to your face. This type of exfoliant contains salicylic acid or BHA: if you have acne, this is ideal.
Do you need to smooth your skin? Exfoliating with an AHA-based product is the best choice for you. Scrubs should be used 1 to 2 times a week maximum. Girl exfoliating her face
3- HYDRATION: THE BASIS OF A GOOD SKINCARE ROUTINE
Hydration is probably the most important step in a skincare routine. Well-hydrated skin is skin that:
- has a lower probability of experiencing irritation and tightness;
- sees a reduction in the appearance of wrinkles and fights against existing ones;
- is more pleasant to the touch.
Unfortunately, too many people still make the mistake of believing that if they have oily skin, they can skip this step. On the contrary: excessive sebum production (which causes oily skin) can result from severe dehydration. It's a natural defense mechanism of your skin: it's too dry, so it produces a lot of sebum to try to compensate!
Again, there are many different products. Take your time to choose a moisturizer, lotion, or cream that suits you: it is essential to create or perfect your existing skincare routine. Apply it morning and night, or even in the middle of the day for an even more powerful moisturizing effect: it is easier to under-hydrate than over-hydrate...
4- SUN PROTECTION: THE MIRACLE PRODUCT FOR YOUTHFUL SKIN IN THE LONG TERM
The daily application of sunscreen helps combat the appearance of skin cancer. But you probably already knew that.
But did you know that UV rays are responsible for 80 to 90% of skin aging (yes, you read that right)? By applying good sun protection every 2 to 3 hours, you protect yourself: it would be a shame to miss out!
You must have already seen small brown spots appear on your face, the sun is the cause. Only one remedy: sunscreen! Bonus tip: use sunscreen with an SPF of 50 or more to save a little time during your morning routine.
If you have dark skin, an SPF 30 may be sufficient, but that doesn't exempt you. This step should be the last of your morning skincare routine!
Of course, you don't need to include this step in the evening.
There you go, you now have the basics to build a great skincare routine. Of course, it's possible to complicate it beyond these 4 steps... But you have to start somewhere! First, build a solid routine with products made for your skin type.
To enhance your skin, nothing beats starting with impeccable habits for the fundamentals of skin care!
To go further, here are some ideas to further improve your skincare routine:
1. Add a toner;
2. Use an anti-aging active ingredient, such as retinol or vitamin C;
3. Regularly consult an esthetician and dermatologist, at least for relevant suggestions;
4. Use an eye contour cosmetic;
5. Practice face yoga and Gua Sha.
